Niina Aoki was born in Porvoo, Finland in 1985 and raised in Japan and Australia. Niina's first foray into drawing came at the age of two when she drew a picture of a bunny. Upon completing a Bachelor of Design at Curtin University in 2009, she has been working professionally under her own label creating products that feature her art.

In the past Niina has experimented with a variety of mediums such as watercolour, acrylic paint, colour pencil and ink. She is currently enjoying the bright vividness of gouache paint and digital techniques. Niina's love of animals feature prominently in her work and her own cat, Panko, is often the main subject. Her desire to draw her love of cats resulted in a successful project “50 Cats of Perth” in 2015 which culminated in an exhibition and printing of a colouring book.

Niina draws inspiration from her surroundings and current interests. She also looks to her Finnish and Japanese culture for inspiration. By incorporating elements from her home countries, Niina feels close and connected to her heritage. Her main goal in making art is to make others smile and feel happy. Niina likes to add a touch of humour when appropriate to set her work apart and to engage with the audience.

Niina currently lives and works in Perth, Western Australia in her home studio alongside her faithful cat, Panko.
